Village life

Explore our connected, vibrant community where something’s always happening.

As busy or as relaxed

as you like

At Greytown Orchards, retirement doesn’t mean slowing down—it means choosing how you want to spend your days.

Whether it’s getting outdoors, learning something new, or simply enjoying good company, our residents make the most of village life with a calendar full of meaningful, fun and inclusive activities, led by both the community and visiting professionals.

A Place to Move and Connect

Our Walking Groups (gentle or advanced) start the day with a breath of fresh Greytown air, while the Bike Group rides further afield—rain or shine—returning for a well-earned coffee together.

For those looking to maintain strength and mobility, Strength, Movement and Balance sessions led by a visiting physiotherapist are a regular highlight. And of course, there’s always time to relax and enjoy a good game of pétanque, played twice a week on our dedicated pitch.

The Craft Group gathers weekly to sew, knit, crochet, or work on personal projects, all while enjoying coffee, cake, and chat. For the more competitive, there’s Mahjong and Cards—always well-attended and often running long into the afternoon.

Our Movie Group meets on Sunday and Monday nights to enjoy everything from classics to new releases, while the Singing Group fills Thursday afternoons with joyful noise, led by our very own guitar-playing General Manager.

If books are more your thing, you’ll find good company in the Book Club, where residents come together each month to discuss the latest read. Music Listening Group is a must for classical fans, while Wine Club is a friendly chance to explore different wine regions and compare favourites.

For something a little different, our Resident-led Seminars offer an opportunity to learn from fellow residents—on everything from photography and travel to philosophy and science.

Moments to Celebrate

Resident-led dinners and morning teas are among the most popular events at Greytown Orchards—warmly hosted and always a true reflection of our community spirit. Thursday Happy Hours offer a relaxed chance to connect, while monthly lunch outings and field trips make the most of the Wairarapa’s excellent cafés, wineries, and local gems.

We round off the year with our much-anticipated Christmas Party, attended by the majority of our residents. It’s a night of laughter, shared stories, and good food—capturing the sense of fun and belonging that Greytown Orchards is known for.

A community

that moves with you

As the village grows, so too does the potential for new shared experiences.

With a brand-new Community Centre under construction, residents can look forward to even more opportunities to connect, create and celebrate in a space designed for the way we live now.

At Greytown Orchards, there’s always something going on—because this is a place where life continues to be lived to the fullest.
